Rudraksha = Rudra + Aksha (tears)

Legend goes that Shiva was meditating for thousands of years and when he opened his eyes, he could not bear to see the suffering of humanity. Tears flowed from his eyes and where the tears touched earth, Rudraksha trees grew that produced the Rudraksha beads.

Rudraksha has been used by Rishis, Yogis and meditators as the power, grace and protection of Shiva. It is a reminder and assurance of the consistent guidance and protection on the journey.

Shiva = The pure light of awareness.
When withdrawn, results in the darkness in the world, where ignorance dominates and beings go into downfall of consciousness, thus inviting immense suffering. This period refers to the dark period, where awareness is almost absent and ignorance highly prevalent like the Kaliyuga. Or you may say, when you are totally ignorant about what life is, when awareness is absent.

Rudra is the aspect of Shiva that opens his third eye to become aware of ignorance feeling the pangs of pain of humanity and shedding tears of pain. To relieve suffering from ignorance, Rudra burns ignorance (ego) and sheds tears of compassion and love during the suffering caused by deatruction. When Rudra destroys ignorance completely and liberates, he sheds tears of joy.

These tears only signify the 3 stages that you will be undergoing. Wearing Rudraksha is a reminder of his compassion, love, grace and protection during these stages.

Wearing it is a reminder of one’s awakening to the path of liberation, a reminder of disciple and consistency, and a reminder of being loved and protected.

Now, there are many mukhis in Rudrakshas, and each represent what are you aware of? Mukhi means “faced” or “pointed” meaning where you face or point your awareness to. There are 1 to 21 mukhis.

πŸ”…1 Mukhi means attention only in one direction, that is Self-awareness, only on Shiva.
Only pure awareness.
Amness.

πŸ”…2 Mukhi means awareness of Ardhanarishwara, Shiva and Shakti, meaning Consciousness + Matter.
Spiritual & Worldly.
I + Am

πŸ”…3 Mukhi means awareness of 3 aspects of Brahma, Vishnu & Rudra.
Power to creation, sustenance & destroy

πŸ”…4 Mukhi means awareness of 4 heads of Brahma
4 Vedas
4 directions – North, South, East, West
4 ashramas of life – Brahmacharya, Grihastha, Vanaprastha, Sanyas

πŸ”…5 Mukhi means awareness of the panchakriyas (5 actions) of Panchamukhi Shiva – Creation, Sustanence, Destruction, Tirobhava (power to conceal) & Anugraha (power of grace)

πŸ”…6 Mukhi means awareness of 6-headed Kartikeya. Awareness in all 6 directions. 4 sides plus 1 up and 1 down. Awareness of the lower 6 chakras holding the 6 enemies – kama (lust), krodha (anger), lobha (greed), moha (passion), mada (ego) and matsarya (jealousy).

…… and so on…….

You can see clearly as your awareness becomes narrower on the journey you finally become ek mukhi (one-pointed)…. on the Self!

What I wish to emphasise here is that it is all about the Divine within you that wakes up and becomes awareness of the stuckness in the birth and death cycles of oneself and others, thus shedding tears of agony due to suffering in the world. As one evolves out of ignorance and becomes more sensitive towards life, one sheds tears of grace, compassion, power and love that becomes the leash of uplifting oneself out of ignorance. Soon, as one finds oneself and others beings lifted out of the veil of ignorance into freedom, one sheds tears of joy and ecstasy. I see clearly that Shiva has these 3 kind of tears. You and Shiva are the same. Microcosm & Macrocosm.
